Welcome to Loytz, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Distribution Algorithm
by @digital.black · · 0 0
Launching a creator support platform seemed like a good idea at 2 AM. Now it's 6 months later and I'm testing features with fake data that's more entertaining than it should be.
So here we are. Loytz is alive (barely), the servers are running (surprisingly), and I'm writing this first post instead of fixing the issues labeled 'critical' in my backlog.
The concept is simple: you subscribe for a few bucks a month, engage with creators you like, and our algorithm splits your money fairly based on who you actually interacted with. No manual tipping, no forgetting who deserves your support, no guilt about not sending that $1 to someone whose content you binged at 3 AM.
Right now I'm in that special phase where I'm creating test data and realized 'user123' and 'creator_test' make me want to delete the entire database. Hence this actual post with actual words.
Will this work? No idea. Did I spend an embarrassing amount of time fixing bug to push MVP that can be used as post publishing service instead of, you know, marketing? Absolutely.
But hey, at least the dashboard nad profile looks pretty. That counts for something, right?
If you're reading this in the future when Loytz is either huge or dead, know that it started with one slightly delusional developer and a belief that supporting creators shouldn't require a PhD in Patreon navigation.
Let's see where this goes. Worst case scenario, I've got great material for a 'lessons learned' blog post
